Learning God’s Word

Second graders explore key Bible stories and verses from both Testaments. They learn about:

  • Old Testament: Creation, Ten Commandments, Bible Heroes
  • New Testament: Jesus’s Coming, Miracles, and Salvation

Memory

Memory verses reinforce Bible lessons, focusing on meaningful passages from both Testaments.

Spelling and Vocabulary

Students practice spelling patterns and phonics, enrich vocabulary, and use proofreading and dictionary skills.

Language Arts

Focus on reading, phonics, writing, and grammar with:

  • Phonics and spelling
  • Literature and comprehension
  • Writing strategies and mechanics
  • Parts of speech

Math

Students build on foundational math with:

  • Basic operations, fractions, money, and time
  • Geometry, measurements, and data analysis
  • Intro to problem-solving and algebraic thinking

Social Studies

Topics include:

  • Map skills, interdependence, family, citizenship, and people who made a difference

Science

Exploration in four areas:

  • Life Science: Animals
  • Physical Science: Matter, sound, heat, and light
  • Earth Science: Earth studies
  • Human Body: Body functions and nutrition

Physical Education

Two gym sessions weekly teach foundational sports skills and sensory exercises.

Technology

With computer classes and iPads, students enhance reading, typing, and project-based skills. Key projects include:

  • Techno Author: Write and illustrate a fairy tale
  • Techno Fit: Design a food guide and menu
  • Internet safety lessons

Music

The Orff-Schulwerk process teaches music through play, singing, and rhythm. The focus is on creating and enjoying music rather than performance.

Art

TK – 8th Students attend art class with Ms. Hailey once a week:

Throughout the year, students will work with a wide range of materials, tools, and mediums. They will explore the elements of art and principles of design to create art pieces inspired by significant art movements throughout history. This approach aims to ignite curiosity and foster a lifelong love of art.
