Theme: Foundations of Faith
The middle school Bible curriculum focuses on deepening the student’s understanding of the Christian faith and its application in their lives. At the 6th Grade level, the curriculum focuses on :
- Biblical Foundations: Key Bible stories and themes emphasizing God’s faithfulness and the importance of Scripture in daily life.
- Prayer and Worship: Instruction on different forms of prayer and the significance of worship in developing a relationship with God.
- Christian Living: Discussions on living out faith in everyday situations, including the topics of integrity, service, and community.
- Church History: Overview of significant events and people in church history influencing Christian beliefs and practices.
- Moral and Ethical Lessons: Exploration of moral dilemmas and ethical decision-making based on Biblical principles.
- Personal Faith Journey: Students are encouraged to reflect on their own faith experiences and how they can grow in their relationship with God.
Memory Work
Weekly memory exercises support Bible study:
- Books of the Bible.
- Verses that align with the school’s theme.
- Key passages supporting the key teachings of the Christian Faith.
- Citations and Bible verses outlined in Luther’s Small Catechism.
Spelling and Vocabulary
At this level, students dive into spelling rules, origins, and meanings of suffixes, prefixes, and Latin/Greek roots. Vocabulary pulls from high school SAT lists, focusing on pattern recognition, word formation, and usage.
English
English skills are developed through:
- Grammar (nouns, verbs, punctuation, etc.)
- Sentence fluency and expansion
- Spelling/vocabulary (word families, classical roots)
- Writing (5-paragraph essays, biographical research papers, MLA format)
- Speaking (demonstration speeches)
- Revising, editing, and proofreading
Literature
Students read historical fiction and anthologies to:
- Expand vocabulary (figurative and connotative)
- Analyze conflicts, plot, characters, and themes
- Compare texts and write thesis statements
- Participate in oral presentations and creative writing projects
- Meet Accelerated Reading goals
Math: Intro to Pre-Algebra
This course introduces foundational Pre-Algebra concepts, including:
- Fractions, decimals, and percentages
- Ratios, unit rates, and proportions
- Statistics (mean, median, mode)
- Order of operations (PEMDAS)
- Prime factorization
- Basic geometry and algebraic expressions
Social Studies: Ancient Civilizations
Students explore ancient history from early human societies through ancient Greece and Rome. Activities include role-playing, projects, and simulations, covering:
- Early humans and civilization development
- Mesopotamia, Egypt, India, China
- Greece and Rome
Science: Integrated – Earth and Life Science
With hands-on activities, students study Earth and Life science topics like:
- Systems and subsystems
- The atmosphere and energy
- Earth systems, weather, and organisms
- Cells, traits, and genes
- Regional climates, global warming, and living systems
Spanish
Online Spanish lessons focus on reading, writing, listening, and speaking, including:
- Vocabulary: greetings, classroom items, colors, weather, family, and time
- Grammar: adjectives, articles, punctuation, verb conjugation, and subject agreement
Art
TK – 8th Students attend art class with Ms. Hailey once a week:
Throughout the year, students will work with a wide range of materials, tools, and mediums. They will explore the elements of art and principles of design to create art pieces inspired by significant art movements throughout history. This approach aims to ignite curiosity and foster a lifelong love of art.
Physical Education
Students wear CLS uniforms three times per week for activities like:
- Strength training, stretching, and running
- Sports basics: basketball, volleyball, soccer, softball
- Presidential fitness training for yearly evaluation & certification
Technology
Students learn safe technology use and Microsoft Office basics, including:
- Typing practice & Coding
- Google Drive, Google Docs, and spreadsheets
- Digital creative projects
